The existing house had no connection with its backyard and pool, something the owners wanted to rectify. NEA provided a design that creates a physical and visual connection with the garden, pool and revamped back shed.
By tiering the deck extension to the rear of the existing dwelling, sight lines to and from the spaces below are captured. The tiered decks then have a stair and undercover walkway that links to the shed, creating a garden courtyard space between the structures.
Materials and the scale of the structures have been thoughtfully selected to blend in with the existing Queenslander, without mimicking the original fabric.
